Personality: Just from looking at her, one can tell there’s more to Chie than just some pretty face. She holds a very high standing for herself and she isn’t afraid to speak her mind in a situation. At the beginning of Persona 4, it’s obvious that she is very protective of Yukiko, who gets flirted with by a lot of the guys at school. However, over time it becomes apparent that she has the will to protect all of her friends from danger.

Even though to others, Chie seems to be on the offensive and ready to pummel someone’s face in, she’s really just a ridiculous, down-to-earth girl. Around her group of friends, she’s cheerful and very encouraging. She really tries to help Yukiko bring up her self-esteem and keep her from worrying about her family inn. Along with those attributes, she’s also a bit sarcastic. This usually happens with either Yukiko or Yosuke, in Yukiko’s case, it’s to cheer her up. With Yosuke, it’s mostly getting discounts on Junes, which she takes very seriously even though she’s joking. Chie also is very animated with her reactions, which gives her a bit of a childish sense. There’s a lot of times when she’s with Yu and Yosuke when she overreacts to a certain situation, such as when they went to the Shadow world for the first time. Another time would be whenever they’re at Junes and Chie makes a scene that she should get free steak. And during the case, she tries to cheer everyone up by joking around.

She’s also a terrible cook, and everyone knows it. But that will never stop her from teaming up with the girls and creating something horrifying, naively thinking that everyone will love it and that it looks normal. Though she will admit that she doesn’t quite remember what they put in their concoctions sometimes. And despite how she acts, Chie does have a bit of a girly side. She will talk about boys with her girlfriends sometimes, along with some of her outfits that have a girly-sporty look to them. In the beginning she had that tomboy façade going on, but as the series progressed, she started to show more and more of her feminine side. Along with this, she also can be embarrassed easily. There will be times when one of her friends will say something that contradicts what she said, and she will get haughtily embarrassed by it. Denying that wasn’t what she meant at all to say in the first place, everyone else just misunderstood her. Not only that, but she absolutely loves martial arts. Chie has an entire collection of martial arts DVDs; her favorite actor/idol from that genre is Bruce Lee. She also likes to think that she is some sort of master at the sport, even though she hasn’t really gone through many years of training sessions for it, although she is pretty good at it regardless.

Chie also has a bit of a temper, which can get out of hand if her friends aren’t around to try and stop her from doing something stupid. Along with that temper though, comes being fearless. She is not afraid to stand up for what is right; there have been times when Chie has helped underclassmen get rid of bullies. Sometimes she’ll bite off more than she can chew, but thankfully one of her friends intervenes to help her out or to get her out of it.

Even though, however, Chie looks all happy and goofy all the time, doesn’t mean that she has the same feelings on the inside. Before facing her Shadow, Chie felt extreme loathing and jealousy towards Yukiko because of how much attention she got and how beautiful she was. Compared to that, Chie was nothing, just the over-zealous girl who would scare off the creeps clinging to her best friend. She didn’t think of herself as a pretty girl, she wished that she could be Yukiko. As the story progresses though, you can see that she is becoming a lot more comfortable with herself and is still best friends with Yukiko.

Around her classmates, Chie can act just the same as she would around her friends. Though there will be times were she tends to act a bit more mature around others comparatively, an example being around Nanako. Even though she tries to hide it, everyone knows she’s just a goofy girl with some big dreams and a big heart.

Abilities: Chie, like all the rest of her friends, can use a Persona. The one that she uses is Tomoe Gozen, which doesn’t have many spells to use, mostly just physical power. Most of her attacks are close range, when Chie is fighting she will either use her bear fists or greaves to fight.
